The destination may be instantly recognisable.
The wedding should not feel predictable.
Destination Weddings in Santorini
Santorini has one of the strongest visual identities of any destination in Greece.
The caldera, volcanic landscape, whitewashed architecture and changing light are already present before any design decision is made.
That is why we approach weddings here with restraint.
Rather than trying to make a wedding look more “Santorini”, we focus first on choosing the right setting, understanding how the venue works and building the celebration around the couple rather than around a familiar image of the island.
Guest count, privacy, accommodation, ceremony, access, music, production and overall investment are considered before the aesthetic direction is developed.
01 / THE VENUE
Choosing a Wedding Venue in Santorini
Santorini gives you something very few destinations can: a setting that already carries enormous visual presence.
That makes venue choice particularly important.
A caldera-facing estate, a hotel, a dedicated event space or a winery can all place the wedding within Santorini in a different way. Some give the landscape the leading role. Others create more separation from the island’s most familiar imagery.
For us, the interesting choice is not simply where the view is best.
It is deciding how present Santorini should be in the wedding.
For one couple, the caldera may be the defining feature of the venue. For another, the priority may be privacy, architecture or the way the space allows the celebration to unfold.
The venue should give the wedding a clear sense of place without making every Santorini wedding feel the same.
That is where the design begins.
02 / THE WEDDING WEEKEND
A Wedding Over Several Days
When guests travel to Santorini for a wedding, the destination becomes part of the time they spend together.
The wedding may be the central event, but the days around it give us the opportunity to experience the island differently.
A first gathering might be relaxed and centered around dinner. The wedding can carry the strongest creative direction. The following day may move onto the water or become something deliberately informal.
What should connect them is the way the weekend feels as a whole.
Different settings. Different rhythm. One experience.
03 / THE CEREMONY
Wedding Ceremonies in Santorini
Couples marrying in Santorini may choose a symbolic, civil or Greek Orthodox ceremony, depending on their circumstances and the setting.
A symbolic ceremony offers the greatest freedom over location and can be incorporated naturally into the wedding venue.
For a civil marriage, the legal process and required documentation should be established early in planning. For a Greek Orthodox ceremony, church requirements and availability need to be confirmed before the wider wedding-day structure is developed.
If a Catholic church ceremony is essential to you, we would recommend choosing another Greek destination.
We believe the ceremony should be treated as a defining requirement from the beginning, not something the destination is expected to accommodate afterwards. The right destination is one that supports the wedding you actually want to have.
04 / ACCOMMODATION & GUEST MOVEMENT
Where Guests Stay Is Part of the Wedding
One of the earliest decisions after the venue is where the majority of guests should stay.
This matters particularly in Santorini, where the relationship between accommodation and the event locations can materially affect the guest experience.
A collection of beautiful hotels is not necessarily a good accommodation plan if every gathering requires complicated movement across the island.
We prefer to create a clear centre of gravity for the weekend.
That may be one hotel, several nearby properties or accommodation concentrated around the area where most events will take place.
05 / THE BUDGET
What Does a Destination Wedding in Santorini Cost?
Santorini is one of Greece’s most established destination wedding locations, and the most sought-after dates, venues and accommodation are priced accordingly.
For us, the important question is not simply how much is being spent, but where that investment should be felt.
A remarkable setting may call for very little intervention. In another wedding, greater emphasis may be placed on production, hospitality, entertainment or the events surrounding the wedding day.
We establish those priorities early, so the budget reflects the experience the couple wants to create rather than being distributed evenly across every element.
Santorini already brings a great deal to the wedding.
The investment should add to that with intention, not excess.
06 / THE SEASON
When to Marry in Santorini
Santorini’s wedding season extends through the warmer months, with each part of the season bringing a slightly different atmosphere to the island.
The right date depends on the type of celebration, the chosen venue and how the couple wants the day to unfold.
Once the venue is selected, we consider the light, sunset and natural rhythm of the property when developing the wedding-day timeline.
HOLLYWED
Destination Wedding Planner for Santorini
Hollywed is a wedding planning and design studio based in Greece, producing celebrations across Greece and Italy.
For a destination wedding in Santorini, our involvement begins with the initial budget and venue search and continues through ceremony planning, supplier selection, accommodation strategy, guest movement, creative direction, production and the wedding weekend itself.
We work with a limited number of couples each year and offer full planning and design.
The wedding is therefore considered as one project — creatively, financially and operationally — from the first decision to the final event.
The island already has a strong identity.
Our role is to make sure the wedding has one too
WHAT WE WOULD CONSIDER FIRST
-
No. Venue selection is part of the planning process. We begin with the guest count, priorities, overall investment and the kind of experience you want to create, then look at the settings that make sense for the wedding.
-
For the greatest choice of venues and creative partners, we recommend beginning early, particularly when the date is important to you. We can also assess shorter planning periods individually depending on the scale and requirements of the wedding.
-
Not necessarily. What matters is creating an accommodation strategy that makes the weekend easy for guests. Depending on the group and venues, that might mean one principal hotel or several properties concentrated within the same area.
-
If a Catholic church ceremony is essential, we recommend choosing another Greek destination.
